01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At lunchtime, the Zakoba set meal brings together a range of fish dishes. The menu lists fried fresh fish with nanban sauce, simmered fish, sea bream sashimi and sea bream broth, alongside small side dishes, spicy cod roe, rolled omelette, rice and soup. One lunch diner reported enjoying the crisp texture of the fried fish, the sweet sauce on the simmered mackerel in miso, and the soft omelette. They also remembered placing the sea bream sashimi on rice and pouring over the broth to make a chazuke-style finish. Another family diner likewise enjoyed a meal that included simmered fish, fried fish, sea bream sashimi and broth. It makes a good choice if you want to sample several fish dishes, with the option of ending with rice and broth.
Other lunchtime choices listed include set meals with simmered fish, tempura or sashimi, as well as combinations of nigiri sushi and tempura. You can make fish the focus or add sushi and fried dishes to the meal.
In the evening, order sushi by the piece or choose an eight-piece platter. Tempura comes in six- or nine-item assortments, and the menu also lists more unusual options such as squid with sea urchin and scallop with salmon roe. For a seafood-centred meal, consider shabu-shabu with tuna and mizuna, sea bream and burdock, or salmon and onion, as well as the fisherman’s fish-head hot pot. The restaurant is on the 2 floor of the Toyo Building on Abenosuji in Abeno-ku, Osaka. Private rooms and baby chairs are also listed, making it an option for family and group meals.
